The field for the November municipal election in Waltham has narrowed this week as 6,429 out of 34,232 registered voters--or 19 percent--cast their ballot by the close of the polls in the city’s preliminary election on Tuesday.

Before Waltham voters decide in November whether to reelect Mayor Jeannette McCarthy for a fifth term, the field will need to be narrowed during a preliminary election in September.
